Movie Rental Stores? What's That?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm one of those people that likes to walk into a Movie Rental and browse the shelves. That was part of family night at my house. There used to be four movie rental stores near my house. Now there's one and it's barely hanging in.

What could possibly be the downfall for these fantastic stores? I think it might be because of cable packages like ONDemand. I know that because I have that, my family doesn't go to the movie rentals anymore. My mom is obsessed with it and I have to say, it's very convenient. You don't have to go out anymore, but it doesn't give off the same experience for me. Technology has shown that, once again, it can improve, but is it worth an experience that used to be fun for most people?

I want to know what you think is the downfall of Movie Rentals and why? Which do you prefer?

I think that between the emergence of so many movies available ONdemand from your TV, along with the development of Redbox, movie rental stores are becoming obsolete. There is simply no need for a bricks and mortar movie rental business when the same product is available in more convenient ways. Though Redbox does not provide an extensive selection, the sheer convenience of the rental process is enough to keep customers coming back.

I agree. Traditional movie rental stores, such as Blockbuster, are being proven obsolete because they are more expensive, but most of all, less convenient. As technology has advanced, it's caused certain things to become outdated and unused. Being able to rent a movie from my couch for the same price, if not less, than the movie rental store eliminates the need for the store all together. If there was a factor to entice me to go to movie rental stores, I'm sure I would go there more often.

I think its that people would just rather have the convenience and affordable prices of redbox over movie store prices. That or the less infamous blockbuster "blue box" as I like to call it. Like you stated already, there are barely anymore movie stores anymore and one of the only ones that i know of that hasn't gone bankrupt(and i mean entire companies like Hollywood Video)is called Family Video and the way it stays in business is by having almost everything in the store be a dollar except for the new releases and games. Plus they ask you how long you want to rent it for, so if you want to rent it for a day or three days or five days its all a dollar(unless its a new release or game), so its actually a better deal than redbox. Not to mention when hollywood video was going out of business, you could get a free rental if you brought in a membership card from there and cut it up and put it in a bowl. So that was a MAJOR success. If more movie stores were like that then there would be more movie stores.

I really wish that movie rental stores were still around. I don't know about you guys, but I have a lot of childhood memories that include Blockbuster. One that sticks out in my mind is when my Dad drove off without me to get a good laugh (don't worry, I know he loves me, he came back haha). I loved the event of going to Blockbuster, grabbing some Dairy Queen and then hanging out with my family to watch a movie. The downfall of movie rental stores was definitely the technology improvement but I definitely do not prefer Netflix over going to Blockbuster. There's just something missing. I even had a Netflix account for a while and ended up canceling it because I didn't like it. RIP Blockbuster.
