Twilight Overload

As the release of the new movie approaches, fans everywhere can be easily spotted due to the mass amount of merchandise that has come available this year. Clothing, jewelry, makeup, and even bobby pins are all available at Nordstrom and Hot Topic (the "mecca for fans").

So much money is being poured into this merchandise line...I don't understand what exactly make something like "Wolf Pack packing tape" more attractive than regular duck tape just because it is licensed Twilight merchandise.

Either way, enterprises are making bank with this garbage...err...stuff.

Here's the full article.

It is interesting how quickly things can become a franchise. There are so many mediums of advertising nowadays. Twilight and Harry Potter are examples of this. It is great because it gets young people interested in reading again. But instead of a book, companies realize that because of the popularity, they can make money through other products.

I'm getting very sick of the Twilight craze. People are spending a ton of money on this craze, when we all know in a few years, it'll just be a thing of the past. Just the other day, I saw Twilight action figures. I feel that people are just wasting their money on this franchise. I do think that the team in charge of advertising this movie is one of the best around. They have found a way to sell a culture, which has become increasingly harder to do these days.

I have to agree. While it is increasingly annoying, props to the advertising team on this one! They're laughing all the way to the bank...

I really hate all this Twilight stuff. I agree with Jared on this one. The advertisers on this franchise are very clever. The adolescents are really eating this stuff up.

I agree; the advertising team is definitely enjoying the Twilight series more than anyone because of their (somewhat ridiculous amounts of) ancillary rights. It's a shame, though, because for many of us it wasn't the actual movie that ruined the series (I saw the first one and didn't think it was that bad)--it was the obnoxiousness of the fans and advertising that seemed to infect every aspect of media. Pretty soon you want to shoot the next person you hear raving about Twilight.

Screw twilight. Yes I'm a boy and yes I may be biased, but what the hell is America's obsession with mythical creatures?? (cough cough Harry Potter)

I agree with Jared. Yes, the advertisers are laughing their way to the bank but at what cost? I dont know if i could stand myself if i was responsible for filling kids heads with this teen vampire crap...
