On Friday, it was announced that the Homeland Security Center opened a $9 million center for a faster government response to cyberattacks. The Internet is becoming increasingly terrifying in terms of crime. The article says "U.S. officials have said that government computer systems are probed or scanned millions of times a day, and face an increasing threat from hackers, cybercriminals..." Not online are cybercriminals a threat to our private lives, but a threat on a national level as well. It is a little more complex with the Net because it is International. Who owns the Internet? How do we decide which rules to implement? The new center will be open 24/7 and will also include the National Cybersecurity Center, which aids in operations among the six largest federal cybercenters. The President said that computer security is " priority." I believe that have a tighter reign on the Net is something that is long overdue, but will it really make it a safer place?

Tighter restrictions and better Net security will be a Disney Land for hackers that get off on the thrill of cracking codes. Just like a diamond thief or bank robber, it's the thrill of seeing if you can get away with it. Don't get me wrong, I believe restrictions and security is well overdue but the fact remains that there are still individuals out there in cyberspace trying to get one up on the oppostion that is trying to shut them donw.

I agree. Cybercriminals will not let increased security get in their way at all. There is no real way that computer security can be enforced. I think it is rather difficult to track down all the unsafe users. This new security could make it a safe place but I highly doubt it will.
