On October 28, 2009 Michael Jackson's "This Is It" was released in theaters. While some people may be over the death of the "King of Pop" and tired of all of the publicity, most people were not. "This Is It" pulled in $101 million worldwide in its first five days, and distributor Sony is extending the farewell performance film beyond its planned two-week run. The film was the Number One Halloween thriller domestically with a $21.3 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates on Sunday. In one review of the film it is stated that, " That Is It doesn't try to deify Jackson or explain him it tries to celebrate the life of a man who entertained millions in his life time. The movie doesn't make any great revelations about the moments for which he became infamous. It is more like a live performance by MJ than a tribute to him."

I have heard great things about the movie. However you choose to judge him based on the abnormalities of his personal life, on some level you have to recognize the talent of him as an individual. I think that this is a good way for fans who were anticipating the tour to get a look at what Jackson had in store.
I think that was more effective to make it like a live performance as opposed to a biography of his life, because those already exist. At the time of Jackson's death, the channels were overloaded with tales of Jackson's life. One of the most tragic aspects of his death was the loss of this "comeback" tour. For many this movie is appealing because it's as close as we can get to ever knowing what the real performance would look like. If the Hannah Montana live performance film made as much money as it did, it is no wonder that "This is It" did the same.
When I heard Michael Jackson was planning a comeback tour, I was so excited and hoping I could convince my mom to take a little trip to London to catch a show. I know countless others were excited about this prospect as well. The release of this movie has given those fans a chance to experience what his show would have looked like, and I have heard great things about this movie. Unfortunately, I have been unable to see the movie yet, but luckily Sony has extended its playing time and I can't wait to see it.
About a year ago, I was asked the question of if i could see anyone perform live who would it be. My answer was Michael Jackson. He is a truely entertaining performer and amazingly talented. I believe that this movie of his live show is a better tribute to him than any documentary could have been. Even those who think he was a creepy and strange person cannot deny his musical talent and his ability to entertain. This movie gives people the chance to see him where he shines the most instead of in documentaries where all they focus on is his scandals and abnormalty. This movie is a tribute to an amazing entertainer whose musical influence will forever be remembered.
I've heard a lot about this movie and am happy to read that the response to the film is predominantly positive. Although Michael Jackson definitely had his abnormalities, I think we can all admit that this man was an extreme hit maker. His songs are still popular to this day and it's reassuring to know that this movie reflected on the music instead of all the scandals.
