Even though I grew up in the time if the internet it still amazes me at the possibilities it brings. I was sitting in the student center the other day and one of my friends asks me if I had seen this music video? We start watching this ridiculous video of what looks to be a junior high girl. I told her I had never seen it before; we continue watching and I am amazed that this is real. I can't seem to figure out who would invest money in this little girl. My friend kept going on about how this video link was all over her facebook homepage and people were posting and commenting like crazy. When I started looking more into the video I found of that just a week ago the video had only recieved 4,000 hits, yesterday over 6 million hits and by today there have been over 9 million hits. When there is something that people want to share it gets around the internet fast. She has become an youtube celebrity over night. What are your thoughts?

Sometimes the internet can be a good thing when it comes to finding the diamond in the rough but other times, it is unbelievable. As in class when we watched Rebecca Black, there are just some things that don't need to be spread. I think I am forever scarred since I watched it and how viral it has become is insane. So, as with anything, the internet and youtube have both good and bad sides to it.
I still can't believe the amount of hits this video got. The internet has allowed people who have very well off to become famous in a sense. Rebecca Black obviously came from a wealthy family. She would have not been able to produce such a video if she didn't. No record label would have made that song into a hit song unless it was a complete joke. I personally think its sad that that is what the world has come to. If you obviously have a song the sucks, it should not become a hit.
It's not necessarily her fault that she hasn't had proper training, and that no one is telling her what she needs to do to become better at singing, writing (if she wrote that), or acting in music videos.
People with money tend to bypass the training needed for trades like singing or songwriting.
Here's something interesting though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzfQwXEqYaI
I think the technology of this is absolutely incredible. I'm reminded of the "bed intruder" video last semester that had the same effect. There seems to be an interesting, but troubling, common thread between many of these viral videos though. They all involve a negative view on the person that is involved. While I am also completely guilty of this, it's a little disheartening to know that we give the most attention to the people with little talent.
I think it is interesting that we give the most attention to negative things, rather than positive. I wonder why that is? Is it because we like seeing people look bad? If that is the case then there is something seriously wrong with society.
It's almost unreal how little you have to work or how not talented you have to be in order to gain a little temporary fame these days. just look at people like william hung, and youtube sensations like that guy who "sings" the entire keyboard. the price of fame is a lot more easily attained nowadays.
to me this proves how we as a society have failed ourselves. this girl should not be doing this. she need to live her life. let her voice mature and then try out the fame route. yes, youtube stars are possible, like bieber. but, at 13, this is not what she needs to be doing with her life. and. the best reason she needs to stop is that she's not even good. the way she "sings" the word friday just makes me cringe. it need to stop. not by censorship, but by simply not making videos like this in the first place.
