Universities Ban iPad

Universities such as Princeton and George Washington have banned the iPad from their campuses. The iPad is rejected by the networks at these schools, because they are using up so much bandwidth. Specialists are anticipating Apple will take fix this issue, but would it be the end of the iPad if they don't? A huge part of the target audience for this product is college students since they can hold texts books or be used to take notes, but would it really be useful if you couldn't utilize the wifi capabilities? They are assuming it won't harm sales, but what do you think?

I think that the ipad won't necessarily "die" or go away if colleges are banning them, but a large amount of the target audience would be lost.

The iPad will definitely survive this, and more than likely Apple will find a solution and reproduce the fixed iPad as a new and improved version. However, if Apple decided to just drop it, I do think sales would be harmed significantly. If Universities ban them, more than likely more places that offer free wifi will too. Our generation has become so use to easy access to the internet, I'm sure particularly younger consumers would be very turned off by the inability to use the iPad in public wifi areas.

it's reasons like this why i'm waiting until the newer genereation version comes out before i consider purchasing it. even though people take pride in being the first people to own a new toy, more often than not there are flaws with early versions of the product. there are other examples of flaws with new technology also (xbox 360, anyone?) but next-gen versions usually correct these flaws. the ipad will be no different

I'm not sure the iPad is going to do that well regardless of college campuses. I'm more amused by the idea of a college where so many students have money to buy these iPads... and I thought Belmont was bourgeoise.

This is definitely not going to help sales, and therefore can only harm sales. Maybe the guys at Apple more than I do, but you would have to think that the majority of people using the iPad would be students and professors at universities all over the nation. Like Dustin said, this problem will be fixed and the next version of the iPad will be better. This will put Apple and the iPad a step back; but they will make it up in no time.

I don't think it will hurt the sales too much. I think a larger part of the consumers of the ipad are business people who are always on the go and traveling. Also, a few colleges are banning them but a whole bunch apparently are not. I also think that the fact that they are being banned will not eliminate them from those college campuses entirely. Some people will still have them and use them regardless of the rules.

Even if the iPad is banned now, it will most likely be un-banned when apple fixes the problem. That still leaves the question of why are people buying the iPad for school? haha That is to say that apple has bigger problems than two schools banning the piece of technology.

I don't think it will hurt sales it will only encourage apple to come up with another innovative design for it that uses a smaller bandwidth.

I'm assuming that a lot of people will be buying the iPad, college students or not, whether they actually Need it or not, but the fact that campuses aren't allowing its use could very well hurt sales. It will only be a matter of time before iPad 2.0 hits shelves, I'm sure. And it will probably be much more compatible

I don't think that it will hurt sales, because first of all its made by apple. I'm sure apple will work on fixing that problem.
