Since the beginning of China's existence as a communist nation, there has been a strict system in place to regulate all forms of media. The government has long been censoring all forms of print distributed to the public as a means of controlling public opinion, but the censorship has not stopped there. In more recent years, a vast network of computers was created to filter the information that Chinese citizens consume over the internet. Content such as information on government officials and anti-communist literature are restricted and kept from the people. The government also uses this system to publish their own material on the internet and influence the public's opinion of the communist system. This manipulation of the internet brings about many questions for a world which relies to heavily on it. Does one have the right to censor the internet? Should governments have a say in what their people view on the internet? Can one completely censor the internet?

I honestly don't think this censorship will work, i mean there are hackers that can hack anything. I can see this not being too successful, i do however feel that this is wrong and that the chinese communist should not do this. But when a government is given control this is what they do. Makes me think is the government taking control of certain industries and areas really a good thing?
i dont think it is a good thing
but i also agree - i dont think that this censorship will work either
I don't think the government should have a sya in what their people view on the internet. Also, I don't think one can completely censor the internet- like Joe said, there are hackers that can hack anything.
the whole question of government control comes into play here. of course, here in America many people believe that government should have little or no control in peoples lives. back home we have a form of socialism in which gov't does not control, but regulates for the good of the people. Censoring the media just takes too much freedom from the people, which is why dvd piracy is such a huge industry in China. the people there are rebelling against the censorship, and eventually, the gov't will comply and media censorship will become a thing of the past...
I think that the internet is here for a reason and people should be able to view pretty much whatever they want (besides copyrighted stuff). If the people have a huge problem with the censorship then they should do something about it though.
I don't think a Government should be able to restrict the internet from their nation. The internet reaches across the globe, and as such restricting a group of people from the internet is putting them out of touch with the rest of the world. I think this is a very unwise decision by the Chinese Government and will probably just continue to push the people towards a revolution.
No I don't think that the government should have a say in what people view on the internet. & I highly doubt that censorship would work.
