Bye, Bye Oprah

For more than two decades, Oprah Winfrey has been the inspirational, change-your-life champion who reigned over daytime television much like Johnny Carson once ruled late night.

Now she's ready to say goodbye, leaving a huge void for broadcast TV even as she raises the possibility of more Oprah than ever when she starts her own cable network.

Winfrey told viewers Friday that she will dim the lights on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" at the close of its 25th season in late 2011.

"I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye," she said, holding back tears. "Twenty-five years feels right in my bones, and it feels right in my spirit. It's the perfect number, the exact right time."

I can't remember a time without there being an Oprah show. It should be interesting how her viewers and ratings will affect other television shows.

Hearing this news, makes me sad. I cannot believe that Oprah is leaving TV. I remember when I would come home and get advice from her. However, I guess after 25 years of the Oprah Winfrey Show then it is time for it end. Daily TV will not be the same without her. I wonder who will replace, but then again no one can replace the one and only Oprah Winfrey.

I think that it is interesting that one woman has had some much impact on media. She has influenced many people with her show, but has made book sales go up because of her book club, created a magazine and has been a role model for many women. It do not watch the show, but it made me sad to here the announcement. Oprah has become a fixture in our society.

What I find most interesting is that although "The Oprah Winfrey" Show is ending, Oprah is starting her own network station up. Frankly, I think it is time for a change. Oprah has been on the air for over 2 decades. Most television programs do not last nearly as long. Although it is sad to see her go, I feel that it is time for people to move on. It won't be too much different without her. And she's not exactly going away, just moving stations.

This really bums me out to be honest. I LOVE Oprah and what she stands for and quite frankly I hoped one day I would interview by her by way of my profession. However, I think she will be able to do even more good now that she will have reign over in entire network. Needless to say I will miss her show.

She had great longevity and a successful career and I think that she is calling it quits at a great time. It will be interesting to see what she will pursue next. I think she did a lot of good and will attempt to continue that with her network.

Oprah is definitely a fixture in American media and has built a corporation of herself. It is empowering to see a woman who has had so much success but who is not afraid to move on and try something new. To keep doing the show and not have the heart anymore would leave no one happy. America will not forget Oprah... rather they will gladly look forward to see what the nation's greatest female mogul will do next!

i personally do not watch or care for her show, but its hard not to have a deep respect for a person like Oprah Winfrey. I don't think her fans should be too depressed about this, because they're going to see more Oprah than ever if she is starting her own network station. If anything, Oprah fans should be excited.
