Is Baloon boy a hoax?

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/10/balloon-boy-throws-up-dad-denies-hoax-on-today.html
Yesterday 6 year old Falcon was thought to have been swooped away in a large helium baloon but when attorities arrived on scene there was no Falcon inside. Apparently he had been hiding in the attic all along because his father had scolded him. Later when interviewed on Larry King Falcon was asked why he didn't respond when they called him name while they were looking for him. He responded by saying because you said we were doing this for a TV show. This statement has caused media outlets to question whether the story was a hoax or not. Watch the video above and ask yourself this, are media outlets just trying to stretch there coverage and keep people interested in a juicy topic be it true or not? Or is the family really trying to receive publicity? After all they were on wife swap in years past and Richard was eventually going to try to market a similar baloon to the public. Personally as much as I hate to say it I'm leaning more toward the fact that this is a hoax.

I know we talked a lot about this in class today, however I was not aware that this incident happened and am a little late on this juicy media incident. I was on youtube watching various videos about the topic and came across a video which shows Richard Heene addressing the reporters. He tells them to put their questions in a box and he will answer them. This comes off as being very arrogant to me. Why would he take time to come out and address the media only to tell them he will answer their questions later? The fact that he's making them put do this suggests a need for media attention, a fact that has been noticed by many. The family's previous appearance on Wife Swap twice does not lend to the belief that their balloon story was indeed true. I think it's safe to say that most Americans are starting to lean on the idea that the whole thing was a premeditated stunt in some form or another.

Like Haley, I did not know about the incident until after the fact. I watched the live interview on the today show, and found the father was very indirect with his answers. Meredith Viera did not push the man to answer whether or not it was a hoax. Most people go on reality television shows to help gain some status to help break into the television medium and I think this is without a doubt the case with this family. Being on wife swap twice and the boy saying it was "for the show" during the live interview detracted any credibility they had. This is a prime example of the value we place on television as a society as viewers and those who try to manipulate the medium. Millions were sucked in to this ridiculous story, showing what gets our attention and what we consider "news worthy". And on the other side of things a man, I believe, completely fabricates a wild scenario for the attention of the media.

AGH! This was all so ridiculous. When I first saw the lie news footage of the balloon my initial reaction was "What the heck!? who takes the time to build something like that.. and If I saw that floating over my house I would think it was a UFO" Now, however, I cannot believe I wasted so much time being worried about that little boy! I do not understand why people do such crazy things!

I was at the airport when this hit news channels a woman near me started to cry because she felt so scared for this boy. After the crisis was solved and the boy was quoted saying something about his Daddy telling him to hide, I was furious. What a compromising situation to place a child in..

When I first saw the balloon thing on TV during the break, I thought "What in the world?!" I did not understand what was going on. As I was watching the news, I could not figure out how a boy could be in the balloon. I just couldn't believe that a boy was actually riding in the balloon. And then a few days later, when I found out that the boy wasn't even in there in the first place, I thought it was ridiculous. As the news continued to cover the story, I believed that the whole thing was a joke! The parents were only wanting TV coverage. Another thing that proved my beliefs were when the boy literally threw up on TV and the parents did nothing! What kind of parents ignore a sick child?
