Computer Makers Aim to Banish Boot-Up Blues

With society working at a much faster pace than years ago, time has become a resource that can not be wasted. Our society is a fast paced society in which we can simply not afford to wait for anything. We expect things to happen instantly. Even now, cell phones boot-up within seconds. With each boot-up, a computer runts tests on numerous parts of the computer. Many people resort to using sleep mode on the computer. With this, the computer fails to run tests on certain parts of the system and it fails to check for updates for software. Dell has introduced the "Latitude Z" laptop. With this laptop, one does not have to turn on the operating system to access their calendars, email, and even the web. The problem is that these computers can be very pricey.

Computer companies are still trying to develop a cheap, useable computer that doesn't require the long start up times of today's computers.

I'm especially glad to hear this, considering that I'm one of those people who rarely ever shut down their computer because it takes forever to load up. I know next to nothing about computers, but if a lot of what's going on while the computer is booting has to do with checking for updates, that should definitely be more efficient. Who knows, we might not have those random updates popping up all the time and interrupting what we're doing. And even though it only saves a few seconds, it definitely would help us psychologically because, like the article said, the rest of our electronics boot up almost instantly.

I like this idea becuase it is always really irritating when it takes forever for the computer to boot up. I don't like to leave my computer on sleep mode all the time, so I do shut it down everyday, but it is always a pain to boot it back up. Hopefully this will provide to be a better solution.

O, the impatience we have with technology...This is exciting, but not really surprising news to me. I mean, I never turn my laptop off, and I still get software updates...

Cool. Honestly, starting up my computer doesn't take long. So I don't see what the huge deal is, but faster is always better.
